Abbott Mount was founded by and named after Mr. John Harold Abbott of Jhansi. An English businessman who wanted to start a hill station for the European community at the turn of the 20th century. Unlike many Indian hill stations Abbott Mount has changed little since its inception. There are only thirteen secluded cottages spread over this private hill. There is a picturesque church set amidst the forest and and a ancient cricket pitch with an unsurpassed view of the mountains.

Abbott Mount today is visited for Mahaseer Fishing that is popular in nearby Pancheshwar. ACCOMMODATION FACILITIES
There are lovely walks and day treks in and around Abbott Mount. It is a bird watchers paradise with a huge variety of Himalayan birds in the trees around the house. In the summer the garden is alive with the gossamer hues of large variety of butterflies. From March to the beginning of the Monsoons, some of the best Mahaseer fishing in India is to be found in the Kali River at Pancheshwar and Rameshwar. The Lohaghat Bazaar is 6 kilometers away and an easy walk. The bazaar with its old silver smiths, local handicrafts and eating places is worth exploring. One can take day trips to the adjoining towns like Champawat famous for its old temple. Pithoragarh for its quaint bazaar with local handicrafts like Bamboo mats, baskets, wool, pashmina shawls, blankets and carpets. The Mayawati Ashram that was to be Swami Vivekananda's retirement home. Slightly longer trips will take you to the underground caves at Patal Bubeneshwar, Munsiari, Jageshwari, Chakhori and Bageshwar.
